Why Buddhism Is True by Robert Wright and Fred Sanders

The somewhat provocative title of this book simply doesn’t do it justice.  Wright and Sanders offer rich but accessible, scientific but real-world, serious but lighthearted and personal explanations of what exactly meditation is, and why it helps us.  This is a top ten read for anyone who is the least bit intrigued by meditation.
