Poem by Sara Rian

We center community in every choice we make

Community carries us through the ups and downs of life

We all are connected.

We all need to feel seen and heard.

We all feel sadness and anger.

We all have values that we hold dear.

We each seek to serve our families and communities in some way shape or form.

To close out the year and prepare for the expansive impact we can have in 2024, we're having conversations with each of our community partners about their capacity to handle the often intense circumstances of their work, and their own teams ability to manage burnout.

We're also reflecting with each partners on how we can serve each other and serve ourselves.

We know this need isn't unique to the nonprofit sector.

How are you doing?

If you're needing the support of community, know that you are receiving this email because you are community.

We are here for you.

Student-centered Social Emotional Learning

This week, SEL ambassadors from Central High School in Bridgeport learned practices that help them feel Safe, Seen and Celebrated

Using the principles of nonviolent communications, these powerful Bridgeport Public Central High School students stepped up as leaders in a session with us. They were introduced to practices that will help them connect with their present-moment experience including emotions, physical sensations, and thoughts, while also learning how to listen and express oneself in a way that is conducive to true connection.

This training and practice rings true with our partners in schools and with our nonprofit partners like Career Resources in our work with justice-impacted returning citizens, with Building One Community in our work with integrating immigrant families and over 55+ more organizations across Fairfield County.

It's consistent, community-centered practice, that adds up.

It's only possible because you are part of this community. As a participant, a facilitator, a partner, or a donor. We are grateful to you.

May we all feel carried and know our strength to carry others.
